A BUSINESS leader who played a key role in shaping housing policy in Jersey has confirmed that he is to step down next year after more than three decades in the sector.

Andium Homes has announced that chief executive Ian Gallichan, who took on the role as the States-owned company was launched in 2014, had given a year’s notice of his retirement in July 2025.

The former Victoria College pupil, who served as an officer with the Royal Hong Kong Police before returning to Jersey and joining the Housing Department in 1991, was chief officer in the department between 2006 and 2014.

During his time working in government, Mr Gallichan (63) commissioned an independent review of social housing in Jersey and worked to shape the strategy for Andium Homes in the build-up to its incorporation on 1 July 2014.

Richard McCarthy, chair of the Andium board, said the company had “thrived” under Mr Gallichan’s leadership, improving the lives of thousands of Islanders and regenerating several areas of the Island.

He said: “Ian’s retirement marks the end of an era for Andium Homes – his contributions to social housing in Jersey are immeasurable, and his legacy will continue to inspire us.

“We are deeply grateful for his service and wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.”

The Andium board is set to start the search for a new chief executive for the company, which is responsible for more than 4,900 properties housing over 10,000 Islanders.
