THE big screen in Howard Davis Park is set to stay as part of a new government initiative to showcase sporting and cultural events over the summer holidays.

After thousands of Islanders visited the park’s family-friendly zone to watch the knock-out stages of the Euro 2024 tournament, Summer in the Park, which is sponsored by JT, has now been launched.

The Paris Olympics, Formula One and the Paralympics will be available to watch on the big screen.

The Olympics opening ceremony is due to be screened on Friday evening at 6.30pm in the family-friendly zone, which remains an alcohol-free area.

The Creative Island Partnership is a government-led forum which aims to develop Jersey’s creative sector.

Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel said: “We hope everyone takes advantage of this wonderful opportunity to celebrate and connect throughout the summer season.

“We’re keen to hear from you – tell us what events you’d love to see and be part of shaping this fantastic summer programme.”

Pip Carpenter, head of consumer markets and community partnerships at JT, said: “Watching the world’s sporting heroes break records and the biggest names in entertainment perform on the big screen will create an amazing atmosphere. These free events are open to everyone, Islanders and visitors alike, so bring a picnic and let’s hope for great weather.”
