TWO motorists have been sentenced separately for speeding at over 70mph along the same road in St Brelade within an hour of each other.
Jack Paul Harrison (20) drove his green Ford Fiesta at 78mph along Chemin des Basses Mielles – a road with a 40mph limit. He had three passengers in his car at the time.
The incident happened at 9.45pm on 1 June.
Assistant Magistrate Adam Clarke banned Harrison from driving for two months and fined him £645. He told him: “You are so far off the scale I have no choice.”
Harrison also admitted failing to display a valid insurance disc and told the court: “There isn’t really any excuse for it. It was just stupidity.”
St Brelade Centenier Amanda Wright told the court that Jared Asha Tranel Mitchell (36) drove his silver Mercedes at 73mph along the same road at 9.10pm on the same evening, with one passenger in his car.
Mitchell was banned for two months and fined £520.
Both men pleaded guilty to speeding.
