RNLI Jersey has praised a kite surfer who helped rescue a catamaran sailor in St Aubin’s Bay.
The man was preparing to go kite surfing on Sunday when he noticed that a Hobie Cat had capsized and one of the crew was separated from their boat.
The kite surfer gave him his board as he was getting tired and swam to the Hobie Cat, the RNLI said.
Meanwhile, the RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was on its way and rescued the crew member, who had received “a blow to the cheek” as the vessel capsized.
The catamaran “had experienced an issue with some of its rigging and a temporary fix was established which allowed the Hobie Cat to get to shore with the kite surfer and the remaining Hobie crew on board”, the RNLI said.
The RNLI crew thanked the kite surfer, who was given a lift back to Bel Royal.
