FILMING for the new Bergerac TV show is under way in the UK, producers have confirmed – with camera crews due to head to Jersey next month.
Interior scenes, as well as some of the more technical shots that can’t be achieved in the Island, have so far been filmed in Devon.
However, Philip Trethowan, one of the executive producers for BlackLight TV, has revealed that film crews will be coming to Jersey next month.
The new six-episode series – commissioned by BBC-owned broadcaster UKTV – is due to offer a “contemporary twist” on the popular detective drama created by Robert Banks Stewart, which starred John Nettles and ran on the BBC between 1981 and 1991.
Announced earlier this year, the new show will be directed by Peaky Blinders director Colm McCarthy and will feature Irish actor Damien Molony in the lead role of Jim Bergerac.
Mr Trethowan said: “We are delighted to report that filming has begun on Bergerac and is going very well.”
He added: “We are looking forward to coming to Jersey next month and have appreciated all the help and support we’ve received so far.”
Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel recently stressed that “principal filming” would take place in the Island, while Brian Constantine – of production partner Westward Studios – said the team would be “filming as much as possible here”.
Deputy Morel said he was “really looking forward” to the production team arriving in Jersey.
“As a government, alongside Visit Jersey, we are ready to help them make the most of the Island and showcase it in the best possible way.”
