A MOTORCYCLIST who sped along a road in St Saviour without a licence or insurance has been fined £1,290 in the Magistrate’s Court.
The court heard that 22-year-old Robbie Mullen was spotted on his blue Suzuki doing 42mph along Georgetown Road – a road with a 30mph speed limit – on 11 April.
St Saviour Centenier Steven Laffoley-Edwards said that when police officers stopped Mullen he was found to have only a licence and insurance policy for a moped.
Mullen admitted the offences and said: “It was just a stupid mistake and I’m very sorry.”
He added that he had been unaware his moped licence and insurance did not cover a motorcycle, and said: “As soon as I found out I fixed it.”
Relief Magistrate Peter Harris accepted this, telling him: “There is no suggestion that you knew you were riding illegally.”
He fined him £1,000 for riding without insurance, £200 for riding without a licence and £90 for breaking the speed limit.
Mullen has no previous convictions so Mr Harris did not ban him from the roads, but warned him: “You can only be a first offender once.”
