LESS than a year since the “glorious and gracious sling of concrete” was featured in a book of saltwater sanctuaries from around the world, the bathing pool at Havre des Pas has been given another claim to fame…
An article published by the Times this week showcasing 14 of the UK’s “best saltwater and tidal pools” has ranked the now-seemingly iconic swimming site at number six on the list.
Acknowledging that Jersey “isn’t technically in the UK”, the article explained that the Havre des Pas bathing pool was just “too good not to include”.
It continued: “The seafront of its capital, St Helier, has been swallowed up by development, but one of its few saving graces is the fact that you can be on the beach in minutes.
“The tidal pool at Havre des Pas is a popular spot for a splash as it has plenty of water even when the tide has gone out, which, owing to Jersey’s massive tidal range, can save you a long walk to find the sea.”
It also cited the “charm” of the nearby Ommaroo Hotel, which it highlights as being just a five-minute walk away.
It is not the first time that the bathing pool at Havre des Pas has been deemed worthy of such praise, having last year appeared in a book titled “Sea Pools: 66 saltwater sanctuaries from around the world”, by architect Chris Romer-Lee.
That book described the pool as, among other things, “a sensuous shape, caressing the beach in a glorious and gracious sling of concrete”.
