THE former chief executive of Jersey Post has been appointed as the company’s new chairman.

Business leader Kevin Keen is to take over from Alan Merry, who has served three terms since 2015.

Mr Keen will join the company’s board later this month after what was described as a “thorough” recruitment process supervised by the Jersey Appointments Commission.

He has held several senior business roles over the years, including as finance director of Le Riche Group, managing director of Jersey Dairy, chair of Jersey Water and chief executive of Jersey Post.

Mr Keen was made an OBE in the New Year Honours list for his services to the community.

Outgoing chair Mr Merry said: “It has been a privilege to have served as chair of Jersey Post Group.”

He added: “I am pleased to be handing the reins to Kevin, who knows both the business and the Island well, and is passionate about the importance of the role the group plays in serving the people of Jersey.”

Mr Keen said: “I am very proud that I have been selected to follow Alan as chair of Jersey Post Group.

“Having been chief executive from June 2011 until July 2014 I know just how special and important the company and its people are to Jersey and I can’t wait to play my part in its future.”

Jersey Post chief executive Mark Siviter said Mr Merry’s “support and council have been invaluable to me since I joined two years ago”, adding: “I wish him all the best for the future.”

Mr Siviter continued: “I also want to congratulate Kevin on his appointment and welcome him back. His understanding of the business will help us hugely as we build our future direction.”
