JERSEY finished mid-table in a list ranking the number of flight cancellations at British airports last year.

The Island was ranked ninth out of 18 airports, with 1.66% of scheduled flights in 2023 being cancelled. This equated to a total of 291 out of the 17,272 scheduled flights. Meanwhile, 30.86% of the flights leaving Jersey Airport arrived up to 15 minutes late, while another 11.25% landed in the Island between 16 and 30 minutes late.

Aberdeen Airport was the worst, with 4.39% of scheduled flights in 2023 being cancelled. London City Airport was second, having seen 4.04% of arranged flights cancelled. East Midlands Airport was the best-performing airport, with 0.44% of flights being cancelled.

The report was compiled by online casino comparison site Casino Alpha using data from the UK Civil Aviation Authority for airports with 10,000 or more arranged flights during the year.

In a statement, Ports of Jersey said: “At Jersey Airport, we consider on-time performance a critical success factor, and we aim to provide a seamless travel experience for all our passengers.

“We work closely with our airline partners and ground handling teams to minimise disruption, but external factors such as weather conditions, air traffic congestion and en route delays can affect our performance.

“We are dedicated to delivering a high standard of service and will continue working to improve our on-time performance and to minimise disruption for all travellers passing through Jersey Airport.”
