ENGLISH rockers The Darkness have been confirmed as the final main stage act for the first day of this year’s Weekender festival.

The Darkness, fronted by the flamboyant Justin Hawkins, will feature on the main stage at Weekender on Saturday 31 August, alongside Texas, Jamie Webster, Lottery Winners and Sister Sledge.

The two-day event, which is being held at People’s Park in St Helier for the first time this year, also includes a Sunday line-up including Tom Grennan, The Snuts, Circa Waves, Caity Baser and The Zutons.

Formed in Lowestoft, Suffolk in 2000, The Darkness rose to prominence following the release of debut album Permission to Land in 2003. The band is best known for the singles I Believe in a Thing Called Love and festive hit Christmas Time (Don’t Let the Bells End).
