PLANS for a new hospital at Overdale and other healthcare facilities are to be reviewed by scrutineers.

The Hospital Review Panel, which was reformed last month, is chaired by Deputy Jonathan Renouf.

The panel will consider governance and risk around the project, which seeks to finally achieve the long-standing ambition of successive governments by replacing the ageing General Hospital.

A public consultation regarding the scheme closed earlier this month, and it is expected that a planning application will be lodged later this year, with construction planned to start in 2025 and finish in 2028.

Deputy Renouf, whose panel includes the former Health Minister, Deputy Karen Wilson, as well as Deputies Steve Ahier and Alex Curtis, said the review would include regular briefings with ministers, as well as public hearings ahead of the adoption of the next edition of the Government Plan.

He said: “I am looking forward to beginning this crucial work – our priority is to monitor the progress of the programme in the best interests of the public, maintain diligent oversight of expenditure and ensure that the new hospital facilities meet the healthcare needs of the Island.

“We aim to deliver transparent and effective scrutiny to support the development of our healthcare infrastructure.”
