PORTS of Jersey has appointed a new chair to its board.

Geoffrey Spence took over from interim chair Jeffrey Hume, who took on the role following the resignation of Mark Chown last year, on Saturday 1 June.

Mr Spence has been a member of the board since 2018, joining the organisation after holding senior positions in investment banking, where he specialised in financing the utilities, energy and infrastructure industries.

He was also a special adviser to the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer’s adviser on business and EU policy.

Ports of Jersey chief executive Matt Thomas said: “I would like to thank Jeffrey Hume for standing in during the appointment process for a new chair, and for his guidance during his time in the role.

“I’m delighted that Geoffrey Spence has been appointed to the substantive position and I look forward to working with him to continue the development of Ports of Jersey.”

During his time with the board, Mr Spence has chaired its investment committee and has been a member of the nomination committee.
