BRITISH Airways is to increase the number of flights it operates between Jersey and Gatwick.

From 4 November, the BA subsidiary BA Euroflyer will run eight extra flights per week to the London hub, making a total of 19.

British Airways will continue to operate 21 flights per week on the Heathrow route.

Matt Thomas, chief executive of Ports of Jersey, said: “These extra flights will provide a further boost to our connectivity and more choice for passengers.

“British Airways will station its aircraft in Jersey overnight for the early morning flights to both Heathrow and Gatwick, allowing customers to select a 7am flight to either destination, based on their final stop or connecting flight.

“We are delighted that British Airways remains committed to serving Jersey through its global hub at Heathrow and is now adding further options for Islanders to connect through Gatwick.”

Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel added: “It’s vitally important that we have reliable connections with the rest of the world, so this is great news and illustrates the good work being done by Ports of Jersey. Building our air and sea links not only boosts confidence but also sends a clear message that will encourage investment in both the visitor economy and other sectors.”

British Airways is set to make changes to its schedule, and any passengers who have already booked flights that will be affected will be contacted in the coming days, according to Ports of Jersey.
