A WOMAN who tried to import just under four grams of cocaine into Jersey to share with her boyfriend has been jailed for seven months.
Natalia Dorota Grzegorska (36) was due to visit her partner for two weeks and had planned to move to Jersey to join him later in the year.
Shortly after she landed at the Airport on 12 February, Customs officers started searching her bag and she admitted to possessing the class A drug, the Superior Number of the Royal Court heard.
An expert estimated the total street value of the drugs at somewhere between £600 and £1,000, which was consistent with personal use or to share with her partner.
During an interview, she said she had bought the cocaine from a friend and that it was for personal use – adding that she used it “once or twice every six months”.
This was corroborated by an analysis of messages on her phone.
Advocate Nicholas Mière, defending, argued that Grzegorska, who admitted a charge of importing a class A drug, had “an informal relationship” with cocaine.
“She wants to make it very clear to this court that there is no way that drugs will play a part in her future,” he added.
Announcing the sentence, Deputy Bailiff Robert MacRae said: “You must understand that the importation of class A drugs into Jersey, even for personal use, is a serious offence and in such cases, the custodial threshold will almost always be met.”
The Jurats sitting were Robert Christensen, Elizabeth Dulake, Kim Averty, Gareth Hughes, Karen Le Cornu, David Le Heuzé, and Michael Berry.
