JERSEY experienced the sixth-mildest spring on record this year.

Statistics released yesterday by Jersey Met showed an average temperature of 11.9°C across March, April and May, which was 0.8°C above the average figure for the 30 years ending 2020.

The mildest spring recorded since records began in 1894 was in 2020, with an average temperature of 12.5°C.

The top six warmest springs on record have all occurred in the past 17 years.

The Island’s spring weather was less remarkable in terms of rainfall, with 177.1 millimetres being just 0.9mm below the 30-year average, while 687.2 hours of sunshine represented a 9% increase on average.

Jersey Met also released data for May, with the month’s weather showing a similar trend to spring overall.

An average temperature of 14.7°C was a full degree above the average for 1991 to 2020, while rainfall of 49.8mm was 4mm below average, with more than half the rain falling on two days: 1 and 13 May.

A bright finish to the month helped the May sunshine figure to 293.7 hours, around 15% above the 30-year average.

With the exception of some possible drizzle and hill fog this morning, the Jersey Met forecast is for largely dry, bright conditions for the rest of the working week, with maximum temperatures of 18°C or 19°C.
