THE only running event that requires a passport for entry is back once again – and for a good cause.

The Mach1 Runway Run, which is raising funds for Macmillan Jersey, is set to take place on Thursday at 9.30pm.

The 3.4km fun run, organised by Ports of Jersey, allows Islanders to see the Airport runway from a unique perspective, and spaces are limited to 100.

Tickets are £35 per entrant and all ticket sales and further fundraising donations will be donated to the cancer charity.

Running store HAPI in Liberty Wharf is also taking part with a private shopping event from 4pm on Tuesday. Entrants will be able to get 20% off in store by showing their ticket for the run.

Macmillan Jersey’s chief executive, Steph Gibaut, said the organisation was delighted to be the chosen charity for the Mach1 Runway Run.

She said: “As a local charity receiving no funds from Macmillan UK or Government of Jersey, we rely heavily on public donations.

“Events like this are crucial for raising the funds necessary to sustain our services for Islanders. We are extremely grateful to Reto Finance, Ports of Jersey and all those involved in making this event possible.”

Adam Dawson, the chief executive of Reto Finance, sponsor of the event, said: “I wanted to do this event to help raise money for Macmillan Jersey, a charity I have fundraised for over the last few years, primarily with their cycle challenge.

“Macmillan Jersey are obviously a local charity helping cancer sufferers and their families. They do incredible work and so this was really something that we at Reto wanted to help support.”
