LIBERTYBUS is offering free rides on two St Helier bus routes until the beginning of June in an effort to promote the convenience of travel across town.

The TownLink service – comprising route 20 which runs from Liberation Station to the centre of St Helier taking in Castle Quay, Springfield and the Hotel de France, and route 24 which connects Grands Vaux with destinations to Halkett Place – will be free until 1 June.

LibertyBus says that this will encourage passengers to familiarise themselves with the operation of the TownLink service and appreciate how easy it is to connect with onward journeys from Liberation Station.

Launching the scheme during Alternative Transport Week, the bus operator’s managing director Kevin Hart said that the company aimed to extend the benefits of public transport to more Islanders.

He also recognised the government’s investment in the two routes.

Infrastructure Minister Andy Jehan welcomed the initiative as a means of ensuring that St Helier could be negotiated “with ease and without hassle” by a service that joins so many key landmarks.

“The service has been operating nearly two years and we are committed to its long-term future which is why the government has invested in the roadside and on-road infrastructure.

“I encourage Islanders and visitors alike to try the service as a convenient way of travelling across town,” Mr Jehan said.
