A TAXI driver who drove along a road with a 30mph speed limit at 40mph has been warned he is “on the cusp” of a driving ban.

The Magistrate’s Court heard that 42-year-old Jose Marques, who has previous convictions for speeding, broke the speed limit on Rue du Pont Marquet in St Brelade at 10pm on 11 March.

He admitted the offence and said he had been running late for a job and did not want to keep customers waiting.

Advocate Emma Hollywood, defending, said: “He realises this was foolish. He made a mistake and he will not be doing it again. He has too much to lose.”

Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu imposed a £450 fine and told Marques: “You are on the cusp of being disqualified.”
