AN unemployed scaffolder has been fined after threatening police officers in St Helier and door staff at a wine bar.
Gage Saville (29) admitted charges of drunk and disorderly behaviour and being drunk and disorderly on licensed premises when he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court this week. He was fined £400 for each offence.
Advocate Adam Harrison, prosecuting, said the first incident occurred in Bath Street at 2am on 10 March. Saville appeared drunk and approached two police officers on foot patrol, saying: “Arrest me. I know the law. I’m going to sue you.”
Advocate Harrison said: “The police officers moved away but the defendant followed them.
“One officer put out his arm to keep a distance and the defendant started swearing.
“He was warned to stop swearing and that his behaviour was disorderly but continued.”
The second incident happened at 11pm on 22 March in Vittoria wine bar. The advocate said: “A doorman was made aware of a man suspected of smoking cannabis. He asked him to leave but the man became aggressive.”
Three door staff were eventually needed to remove Saville but he threatened them, saying: “I’m going to knock you out.”
Saville told the court that he had been unemployed since an accident but hoped to return to his work as a scaffolder in a month’s time.
Assistant Magistrate Adam Clarke said he was taking into account his guilty plea and low income and the fact that no one was injured in imposing low fines for each offence.
He allowed him to pay at the rate of £50 per week from 1 July.
