A 54-YEAR-OLD man has denied threatening to kill a woman and her dog – but has admitted harassing her.

Nelio Maciel De Caires also disputes allegations that he went to the woman’s workplace and banged on a window – frightening her and another person inside.

De Caires has admitted a charge of harassment, and a Newton hearing will now be held in the Magistrate’s Court to determine on which version of events he is to be sentenced.

Outlining the case this week, Advocate Katie Ridley, prosecuting, said that the harassment occurred in August, September and December 2022 and March last year.

Advocate Julia-Anne Dix, defending, said that De Caires had accepted “the majority of the incidents” but not the threat to kill or that he appeared outside the woman’s workplace.

She added that De Caires had had mental-health difficulties and pointed out that there had been no further incidents of harassment since March last year.

“He accepts that what he has admitted to amounts to a serious matter. He accepts that it crosses the custodial threshold,” the advocate said.

De Caires was released on bail ahead of the Newton hearing, which is scheduled for Tuesday.
