WORK on the project to build the Island’s new hospital has moved a step closer with the move of rehabilitation services and patients from Overdale to a new location.

The relocation of Samarès Ward to the St Ewold’s care home in St Helier forms part of work that will enable demolition of the existing buildings at Overdale, ahead of the construction – due to start next year – of the new acute hospital.

Health Minister Tom Binet said: “We are committed to ensuring that any facility which replaced Samarès Ward would be of the same or better quality, and this newly-refurbished facility will certainly provide patients with a fantastic new environment in which to receive rehabilitative care in preparation for returning home.

“Now that all services have been relocated from the Overdale site, it will allow for full demolition of former healthcare buildings to take place, so construction of the acute hospital is able to start in 2025.”

A public consultation on the concept designs for the hospital is open until Tuesday 4 June. Islanders can find out more and have their say by visiting gov.je/NHFP.
