AFTER delivering almost 300,000 jabs since the start of the pandemic, the vaccination centre at Fort Regent closed last month and the service has now moved into GP surgeries.

To celebrate the milestone, and mark World Immunisations Week, staff from the centre recently got together to be personally thanked by public health director Professor Peter Bradley and the government’s assistant chief executive, Tom Walker.

Professor Bradley said: “Since the first vaccination was given in December 2020, over 290,000 vaccines have been administered to Islanders.

“This week is World Immunisations Week, so it seems apt to celebrate the hard work that our teams have done over the last four years. I am incredibly proud of everyone who has worked on keeping Islanders safe during the pandemic.”

People are eligible for a spring booster if they are 75 or over, aged six months and over and have a weakened immune system, or live in a care home for older adults.

The government’s website states: “Contact your GP surgery to make an appointment to have your Covid-19 spring booster. The vaccine and appointment will be free of charge.

“Delivery of vaccines will vary practice by practice, please contact your GP in the first instance if you have any questions.

“Residents in care homes will be offered the vaccine in their homes.

“Children with a weakened immune system will be offered the vaccine by the Public Health Immunisations Team. The team will make direct contact with the families.”
