THE top ten most popular baby names in Jersey for 2023 have been revealed.
Topping the girls’ list for the fourth time in nine years was Olivia, with Oliver being the number-one choice for boys, according to the Superintendent Registrar’s annual report.
Among them, returning female favourites are Mia, Isla and Emily, with Leo, Luca and Lucas also remaining on the boys’ list.
The name Olivia dates back to the 13th century, but has been a popular choice for parents in the UK since the 1990s.
Other previously well-liked names such as Willow and Arthur, both topping the lists in 2022, have fallen out of the top ten altogether.
Sienna and Noah also both dropped out, with Luna and Gabriel replacing them.
The report revealed that 795 babies were born in Jersey last year – 370 girls and 425 boys, which is 5% fewer than in 2022.
The new report also stated that 2023 saw the lowest number of births in the Island since 1955, reiterating Jersey’s previously reported declining birth rate.
