ALL Island Media, the parent company of the Jersey Evening Post and Bailiwick Express, is proud to announce the latest development in its sponsorship of three great local charities – Brighter Futures, Jersey Employment Trust and Mind Guernsey.

These organisations are tirelessly dedicated to providing invaluable support to our local community.

For many years, the JEP has been published with the strapline “At the heart of Island life” at the top of the front page. That simple message encapsulates our company ethos as a local business so deeply rooted in the Island over generations and articulates our commitment to community.

AIM is uniquely placed to help bring people together and to nurture community spirit which is so pivotal in shaping a brighter future for our island.

AIM HR officer Gemma Corfield said: “In line with our core values and commitment to corporate social responsibility, we embarked on a mission to deliver a tailormade leadership and development programme for our business. When exploring avenues to align this initiative with our values, we were thrilled to collaborate with CompassJersey and participate in their new Charity Training Support Initiative 2024.

“For those unfamiliar with CompassJersey, they specialise in delivering in-house training programmes covering the full range of traditional management development, along with the more contemporary topics including resilience, mindfulness, workplace wellbeing and kindness, equality, diversity and inclusion, financial wellbeing and MBTI and FIRO profiling.

“Under the CompassJersey Charity Training Support Initiative 2024, each time a business engages with CompassJersey for inhouse training delivery, the business will be invited to offer a free charity place on one of CompassJersey’s published programmes.”

Miss Corfield said that the partnership with CompassJersey had provided a unique opportunity to extend support to our chosen charities.

“We recently had the pleasure of meeting representatives from Brighter Futures and Jersey Employment Trust, who will both benefit from participation in the JEP programme in 2024,” she added.

Jacqui Richards, director of CompassJersey, emphasised the pressing need for such an initiative and pointed to a recent article in the JEP penned by Kevin Keen, chair of the Association of Jersey Charities, regarding the decline in donations and the challenges faced by local charities.

“CompassJersey initiated the Charity Training Support Initiative 2024, to play its part in the collective responsibility of local businesses to support their communities and local charities,” she said.

“The CompassJersey Charity Training Support Initiative 2024 presents an ideal platform for businesses to forge meaningful partnerships and bolster local charities. As a small local enterprise, CompassJersey is committed to contributing positively to the local economy and believes in sharing the benefits of employee development and learning with Jersey charities.

“It was a pleasure to meet representatives from both charities and to offer them this opportunity in collaboration with CompassJersey.”

Brighter Futures

Kim is the office manager for Brighter Futures, a charity in Jersey which supports more than 150 families per week.

She has a very wide-ranging role at Brighter Futures, dealing with everything from the charity’s payroll, invoices and employment contracts to reconciling payments. Kim is therefore really looking forward to the Jersey Employment Law and Practice Course, to improve her knowledge about employment law and the practical application of the law in the workplace.

She said: “I am really grateful to All Island Media and CompassJersey for the opportunity to undertake this course. It was a wonderful surprise to be selected for a free-of-charge place.  I’m looking forward to meeting other course attendees and increasing my understanding of employment law topics.”

Jersey Employment Trust

JET chief executive Penny Shurmer said: “We welcome the opportunity to work with All Island Media and

CompassJersey, which will help us grow and learn.

“It not only benefits the individual who will attend the course, but also the organisation. And by investing in us, we can then invest in the community we support.

“This is a great example of collaboration and demonstrates how businesses can offer different skills, training and networking opportunities to the third sector. I would urge all employers to consider how they can support charities in this way. Donation of time and expertise can be as important as a financial donation.”

Businesses interested in exploring opportunities such as the JELP

programme, in-house training, and the Charity Support Initiative 2024 are encouraged to contact Jacqui at jacqui@compassjersey.com.

Brighter Futures and Jersey Employment Trust both have events lined up for 2024 and everyone can take part to help support our local charities. Anyone keen to support Jersey Employment Trust or Brighter Futures can reach out to the respective organisations or visit their websites – jet.co.je and brighterfutures.org.je – for further information.

We look forward to making a positive impact in our community through these endeavours and fostering a culture of support and collaboration.
