LES Quennevais Sports Centre is to be partially reopened this afternoon, but will be forced to close again next week as a result of an ongoing investigation into power supply issues.

Customers were asked to leave the centre at around 12pm yesterday as a result of the power problems, however the ground floor including the Sport Hall, Squash Courts, and Dance Studio reopened at 2pm today and be available for the rest of the week.

Management have confirmed that the swimming pools, Active gym, spin studio and other first-floor facilities will remain closed while work is carried out to investigate and fix the power supply issues affecting those areas.

It was also confirmed in an update issued at 1.20pm today that the centre will need to close completely for at least one week with effect from Monday.

“This [closure] will allow Jersey Property Holdings to complete further investigations and remedial work,” a spokesperson for the Active Team said. “We cannot open any areas of the Sport Centre to the public during this time and our staff will be working from alternative locations across our other sport sites.

“The Active team is reviewing next week’s scheduled sports activities and aims to offer alternative facilities to customers where possible.

“Those with bookings will be contacted directly to advise of alternative arrangements available.”

Lane swimming has been provided at Langford Sports Centre this week, and from Monday will be available to Active members at Aquasplash.

Users have been urged to check social media and the Active Jersey app for updates.

Centre management concluded: “We are extremely grateful to our customers for their understanding during this period.”
