A NEW true crime documentary will delve into one of Jersey’s most infamous murder cases.
Inheritance: The Jersey Murders, a three-part series, will use previously unheard tape recordings to explore the investigation into the Newall murders in 1987.
Nicholas and Elizabeth Newall were bludgeoned to death in their St Brelade home in October that year.
Their sons, Roderick and Mark Newall, were in their early 20s and inherited £900,000 after their parents’ death.
They were later convicted for their involvement in the murders and cover-up.
Roderick, a former British army officer, received a life sentence for double murder, while Mark, an international banker, was convicted of assisting in concealing the bodies.
Said to be six years in the making, the documentary was directed and produced by Eloise Singer at Singer Studios and produced by XYZ Films and Chris Smith’s Library Films. Ms Singer said she hoped the documentary, to be broadcast on Sky, would “serve as a poignant reminder that the pursuit of truth and justice should never waver”.
She added: “My intention is for the story to spark meaningful conversations about the importance of accountability and serve as a catalyst for change.”
Sky UK’s director of programmes Jamie Morris described the series as “jaw-dropping”, claiming that Ms Singer and her team had “produced an incredible investigation into this gripping mystery that has to be seen to be believed, providing new light to a tragic story that has spanned decades”.
Inheritance: The Jersey Murders is due to premiere soon on Sky Documentaries and streaming service NOW.
