RNLI lifeguards are busy ensuring they are “ready and equipped” to return to the Island’s beaches.

Daily patrols will recommence at El Tico and the Watersplash in St Ouen’s Bay, Plémont, Grève de Lecq and St Brelade’s Bay from Saturday 25 May.

Le Braye in St Ouen’s Bay will be patrolled from Friday 29 March to Sunday 14 April, then at weekends and then full-time again from Saturday 4 May to Sunday 3 November.

Jake Elms, lead lifeguard supervisor, said: “The RNLI has been working closely with the States of Jersey and local communities to ensure the beaches and lifeguard units are ready and equipped, and that life-guard training has been performed seamlessly.

“During Storm Ciarán in November 2023, the El Tico lifeguard building was damaged.

“Therefore the lifeguards will be operating from a temporary lifeguard unit between the existing El Tico lifeguard building and the El Tico restaurant.”

He added: “Pre-season preparations are in full swing, and our lifeguards are eager to return to the beaches and do what they do best – offering preventative safety advice to visitors and rescuing those in difficulty in the water or on the beach itself.”

He continued: “Over the Easter period we advise that if you’re heading into the water, visit Le Braye in St Ouen’s, where there will be a lifeguard service operating from 10am to 6pm. Good weather would be most welcome.

“However, it’s important to remember that the water is usually at its coldest at this time of the year, which increases the risk of cold-water shock.

“Be prepared for whatever water activity you have planned, and always have a means of calling for help.

“We wish everyone a safe and happy Easter.”
