A 23-YEAR-OLD man who drove at almost twice the speed limit without insurance or a valid licence – and gave a false name to police – has been sentenced to 70 hours of community service.
James Connor Thompson-Danks was seen on 20 January driving his grey Volvo at 54mph along Georgetown Road in St Saviour – an area with a 30mph speed limit.
The Magistrate’s Court heard that when he was stopped he gave police officers a false name, but then gave his real name at police headquarters.
Thompson-Danks was also found to have no insurance for the vehicle and only held a UK driving licence. He pleaded guilty to the offences.
Magistrate Bridget Shaw told him: “The court does take driving matters seriously.”
She said he could have been sent to prison but probation officers had assessed him suitable for community service.
