A NEW stripe marking Jersey’s second hottest year on record has been added to the climate wall.

The 2023 stripe was painted onto the wall at the Waterfront this morning.

The dark red colour was just one shade lighter than the previous year.

Using colour, the stripes show how the Island’s climate is warming over time, and act as a visual climate change reminder.

There are now a total of 130 stripes on the wall – each representing a year from 1894 through to 2023.

The mural, based on data from Jersey Met, shows whether the individual years were colder (blue) or hotter (red) than the 30-year average temperature between 1971 and 2000.
