A 21-YEAR-OLD man who disobeyed police, resisted arrest and was found carrying drugs – but now plans to “keep his head down” – has been fined £1,400.
Joao Paulo Nobrega Correia was seen pushing and shoving another man in the West’s Centre area of St Helier in the early hours of 3 December, the Magistrate’s Court was told.
Advocate Katie Ridley, prosecuting, said Correia was told to leave the area by police officers but sat on a bench and refused to go – and resisted arrest when officers tried to move him.
He was searched and found to have a small amount of cannabis.
Advocate Chris Baglin, defending, said Correia had apologised for his behaviour and added: “Had he not been drinking this wouldn’t have happened.
“He just wants to keep his head down.”
He added: “He accepts he should have left the area, but there was no actual physical violence.”
Assistant Magistrate Adam Clarke fined Correia £800 for refusing to obey the orders of a police officer, £300 for resisting arrest and £300 for possession of drugs.
He said: “The defence say this is the last time that you will be in court. I hope that is the case.”
