EVie is suspending its fleet of distinctive yellow electric bikes today as a result of insurance cover being withdrawn at “unsatisfactorily abrupt notice”.

In an announcement this afternoon, the company confirmed that the latest time to hire a bike would be 8pm today, with all bikes being “turned off” at midnight.

The EVie bikes will be removed from their public docking stations as soon as possible.

The company stated: “This decision has been forced upon us – our current insurance provider, crucial to the operation of our bike fleet, has unexpectedly withdrawn from the Jersey market.

“We were given a mere ten days’ notice to secure replacement insurance cover, and this unsatisfactorily abrupt notice, amidst the currently turbulent insurance market in the Channel Islands, has made it impossible to continue to offer our dockless bike without interruption.”

It is not necessarily the end for EVie in Jersey. The company said it was “actively working on solutions and in dialogue with potential insurance providers to resume our bike sharing service as swiftly as possible”.

Users have been thanked for their understanding and continued support.
