THE brother of a man accused of raping and sexually assaulting a woman said he overheard the alleged victim say: “I’ll just say he raped me.”
Adam Pearce was giving evidence yesterday in the trial in the Royal Court of David Pearce, who denies four charges of rape and three of sexual assault.
Adam Pearce said that he did not take the woman seriously when he says she made the remark.
He told the court: “She said: ‘If I get any grief, I’ll just say he raped me. It’s worked before and it will work again.’ The words were very clear.”
He added: “I wish I had taken them much more seriously than I did.”
Crown Advocate Simon Thomas, prosecuting, said that Adam Pearce was clearly trying to protect his brother and told him: “I suggest that you’ve come here to make up this conversation.”
He replied: “You would say that, wouldn’t you? I know what I heard.”
