A SEVERE weather alert has been issued by the government as another fierce storm hits the Island.

Following days of torrential downpours, hail storms and even a waterspout forming off the south coast, more heavy showers are forecast today along with winds gusting up to 60mph.

An orange wind warning – the second-highest level of alert – has been issued by Jersey Met.

In a statement entitled Travel With Care: Severe Weather Alert issued on Sunday night, the government warned of possible disruption during Monday’s rush-hours.

They said: “Jersey’s emergency services, in co-ordination with the Government of Jersey, are issuing travel advice in anticipation for severe weather, rainfall and winds, which is forecast to impact Jersey overnight tonight and during tomorrow.

“We are expecting further heavy rain and showers along with north to north-east strong force seven winds from around 3am on Monday morning, increasing to gale force eight with gusts reaching up to 60 mph, with the peak of the winds predicted between 7am and 11am on Monday morning.

“Given these conditions, we are anticipating potential tree damage which may lead to disruption and difficult driving conditions during tomorrow morning and evening travel periods.

“Please therefore allow extra time for your journey, as there may be delays and travel with care.”
