A MOTORCYCLIST who rode through St Helier without insurance or a valid licence has been fined £2,800 and banned from driving for three months.

Alexandre Jardim Vieira (32) was spotted by traffic officers on the evening of 28 December riding his black Kawasaki motorcycle along La Colomberie, the Magistrate’s Court heard.

When officers approached him they discovered that he did not have insurance or a valid licence. The Jersey licence he had obtained in return for his Portuguese licence did not entitle him to ride the motorcycle in the Island.

Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu imposed a three-month disqualification and fined him £2,500 for riding without insurance and £300 for not holding a valid licence.

He allowed Vieira to pay at the rate of £300 per month.
