A LANDSCAPING business which employed a driver with no licence or insurance who drove an unroadworthy vehicle has been fined a total of £2,900.

The white Ford Transit van, belonging to Premier Concrete Services, had two defective tyres, faulty brake lights and a crack across its windscreen, obscuring the driver’s view.

The offences were discovered on 20 June last year, with company director Neil Britton pleading guilty to the charges in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Assistant Magistrate Adam Clarke told him: “You have a responsibility to ensure that all your vehicles are roadworthy, and that the people you employ are appropriately qualified and insured.”

He fined the company £2,000 for employing a driver without insurance and £500 for the driver’s lack of a licence.

The company also received fines for the vehicle’s unroadworthy condition including £100 for the van’s faulty brake lights, £150 for the defective tyres and £150 for the cracked windscreen.
