A FORMER care facility for Islanders with complex needs overlooking Grouville Bay has been put up for sale on the open market for a minimum of £3 million.
Aviemore, a former five-unit specialist accommodation facility operated by the Special Needs Service, neighbouring Haut de la Garenne in St Martin, has been billed as an “exciting development opportunity”.
It was used to house individuals “with learning disabilities who have the most complex needs and are in crisis”.
The facility was also previously subject to a number of Health and Safety Inspectorate orders relating to a lack of written policy or procedure in protecting employees from “violent or aggressive incidents” from clients.
Former Chief Minister Kristina Moore announced last year that the facility, once vacant, would be sold, with the proceeds going towards providing better outcomes for Islanders in care.
It was originally due to go on the market in March 2023.
However, plans were put on hold, with former Health Minister Karen Wilson explaining in December that the planned revamp of the Island’s learning disability accommodation with a new facility at Rosewood House had been paused.
A brochure advertising the U-shaped property and surrounding grounds, which total 0.686 acres, says that the property is not known to have any restrictions.
It recommends that applicants seek planning and architectural advice before submitting a tender.
The deadline for offers is Friday 8 March at noon and the brochure says “preference will be given to unconditional bids received from cash purchasers with a strong track record of completing and developing similar assets”.
