GUERNSEY’S Chief Minister has welcomed the election of Chief Minister Lyndon Farnham and his new Council of Ministers at a time of “domestic and international challenge”.
Deputy Lyndon Trott extended his congratulations to Deputy Lyndon Farnham after the Jersey politician officially took on the top job on Tuesday evening.
Deputy Trott has far more in common with Deputy Farnham than just his first name.
In December, he was also elected as Chief Minister following a vote of no confidence in the leader and several years out of the spotlight.
In a statement, Deputy Trott said: “The States of Guernsey very much looks forward to continuing our close relationship with our Jersey friends and finding more opportunities to work together on matters of mutual interest.
“That close relationship has been essential in recent months, particularly in areas of external relations and constitutional matters, where the Islands’ voices are strengthened by speaking as one and being very closely aligned on the big issues.
“I wish Deputy Farnham all the very best as he, like me, now takes up a new role at a time of domestic and international challenge.
“I would also like to thank the outgoing Chief Minister of Jersey, Deputy Kristina Moore and the Council of Ministers that has served during her leadership.
“While I did not have as much opportunity to work with her directly, I know the relationship between our islands has remained as strong as ever during her time as Chief Minister.”
