A DOMESTIC-ABUSE awareness campaigner will be speaking at a launch event for an initiative which aims to provide resources and training for employers.

Sharon Livermore, a UK-based speaker who draws on her lived experience and works with organisations to address issues related to domestic abuse, launched Domestic Abuse Education last year.

She will be speaking at a launch event on 29 February for the multi-agency Spot The Red Flags campaign, which aims to raise awareness of domestic abuse and coercive control and the impacts these issues can have in the workplace, regardless of gender or sexuality.

As well as providing resources and training for employers, the Jersey Safeguarding Partnership Board’s new campaign will also address concerns with staff and ensure they are aware of available support in the Island. And the government will be developing further internal guidance for managers to better equip them in responding to domestic-abuse situations.

Businesses can register their interest in the breakfast launch event, which will take place at the Royal Yacht Hotel, online, where they can learn more about the campaign and access resources.

Business owners and managers can also complete an online survey which aims to gather insights into existing policies and procedures related to domestic abuse, assess employers’ confidence in identifying the signs of such abuse and determine what additional support might be needed.

Ms Livermore said: “I firmly believe all employers should strive to create safe spaces at work where employees can go and not only be heard but signposted to freedom.”
