ELEVEN ministers have been elected during a States sitting on Tuesday, with Deputy Lyndon Farnham officially taking on his new role as Jersey’s Chief Minister.
The Council of Ministers – which will be led by Deputy Farnham – comprises Deputies and Constables from across the political spectrum.
Reform Jersey leader Deputy Sam Mézec was elected Housing Minister by 31 votes this morning, after seeing off rival Deputy David Warr (10 votes) in the only contested election of the morning. There were six abstentions.
The first minister of the day was Deputy Tom Binet, who replaces Deputy Karen Wilson as Health Minister.
Meanwhile, Deputy Mary Le Hegarat was selected as Home Affairs Minister. She will take over the role from Deputy Helen Miles.
And Constable Richard Vibert was elected as Children’s and Education Minister, replacing Deputy Inna Gardiner.
However, in the coming days the ministry will be split into two portfolios, Children’s Minister and Education and Lifelong Learning Minister, with Deputy Rob Ward up for that role.
Lyndsay Feltham has been elected Social Security Minister, Deputy Carolyn Labey will continue as International Development Minister and Constable Andy Jehan will now be Infrastructure Minister.
Deputy Steve Luce has been confirmed as Environment Minister, and shortly after 3.30pm Deputy Kirsten Morel was confirmed as Economic Development Minister.
Elaine Millar has been confirmed as Treasury Minister.
Deputy Ian Gorst has been elected as External Relations Minister, beating Deputy Philip Ozouf by 42 to one.
