A MAN has been jailed for 12 months after admitting supplying drugs.
Matthew Charles Harris was arrested last summer after Customs officers intercepted a package sent from the UK to the 42-year-old in Jersey which contained £8,000 worth of the heroin-substitute Subutex.
Several days earlier, officers seized an envelope containing £1,000 in cash which Harris had sent to an address in Liverpool.
During a search of his home, officers found cannabis and steroids, and seized his mobile phone, the Royal Court heard.
Analysis uncovered text-message exchanges where Harris and his UK supplier discussed the package containing the tablets, and the envelope containing the cash which the defendant had attempted to send to Liverpool.
Officers also found other communications relating to supplying cannabis.
Harris admitted multiple charges, including being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug, possessing a controlled drug, possessing criminal property and attempting to remove criminal property.
Detective Sergeant Jim McGranahan, who leads the States police Drug Squad, said: “We are committed to removing illegal drugs from Jersey and seeing those responsible for supplying them put before the courts.
“We continue to work with our partners and other agencies to protect our community from the harm these drugs can cause.
“The Drug Squad are supported both internally and externally by many partner agencies and collectively they work hard together to achieve the same goal of keeping the island safe and as drug free as possible.”
