BAXTER & Findlay has been officially accredited as a Living Wage employer – as more businesses “look to do the right thing”.

The window and door company achieved the accreditation through Caritas Jersey, which promotes the adoption of the pay rate – which takes into account the cost of living, taxes and the value of benefits available to working people on low incomes – currently set at £13.41 an hour.

The Living Wage campaign is one of Caritas’s main projects and seeks to encourage workplaces to become accredited in order to help eradicate poverty in Jersey.

Baxter & Findlay managing director Rob Smith said: “Accreditation to the Jersey Living Wage Campaign embodies Baxter & Findlay’s commitment to fair and ethical practices, ensuring our team is valued and supported, fostering a community where every individual’s contribution is honoured and fairly rewarded.”

The chief executive of Caritas Jersey, Patrick Lynch, said: “It is wonderful to be able to accredit Baxter & Findlay as a Living Wage employer and we thank them for their support. More and more companies like Baxter & Findlay are looking to do the right thing for their employees.”

Referencing a recently-published government report – which concluded it was “neither feasible nor desirable” to introduce a statutory living wage rate in Jersey – Mr Lynch added: “It is hugely important that firms and organisations counter this narrative and show that a Living Wage is not only desirable but completely necessary.”
