Islanders reminded to renew dog licences

DOG owners are being reminded to renew their pet licences before the end of January to avoid paying a double fee.

And a new online registering system which aims to simplify the process has been “well received”, according to the Comité des Connétables chair.

Doglicences.je was launched late last year, providing an online portal where the documents could be purchased.

Since the beginning of this year, more than 5,000 licences have been bought, of which over 80% have been applied for online.

St Brelade Constable and committee chair Mike Jackson said: “We are delighted that doglicences.je has been well received and that owners find it provides a simple, quick process to apply and pay for a dog licence.

“We expect the percentage purchasing online may drop a little as paper applications are processed in the next couple of weeks but, overall, the launch has gone very smoothly.

“There are still some 4,000 dog licences to be renewed before the end of January and we would remind dog owners not to delay as a double charge of £20 per dog applies from 1 February.”

Dog owners are able to manage their records through the website and will receive email reminders to renew next year.

There is no need to create an account or remember a password.

The website has taken over from the systems used by individual parishes, although paper applications will continue to be accepted.
