A FUND established by the Bailiff to support Islanders affected by Storm Ciarán has reopened for a second round of applications.

The fund was established to help individuals and families who have been displaced and have suffered hardship following the storm last November, and supported those needing short-term aid to help them through difficulty.

The Bailiff’s Fund for Storm Ciarán has already awarded more than £80,000 in grants ranging from £500 to £5,000 to more than 50 families.

The fund amassed around £175,000 in charitable donations and pledges, less than half of which was distributed at the end of last year by the Jersey Community Foundation. Requests ranged from replacement clothing and children’s toys, to contributions towards significant structural damage to property and cars. Anna Terry, chief executive of the Jersey Community Foundation, said:

“The first round of applications to the Bailiff’s fund illustrated the scope of the damage and the extent to which our community needs this funding. Our community panel, which includes the Bailiff, Deputy Helen Miles and Constable Marcus Troy of St Clement are all well-placed to ensure the funds are directed to those that need it most.

“We welcome applications from any Islander who has been displaced or has suffered hardship as a result of Storm Ciarán and may need short term aid to help them through difficulty.”
