FORMER Infrastructure Minister Tom Binet has announced he will not be standing for Chief Minister – after failing to get enough support for his candidacy.

Less than 24 hours after he ousted Chief Minister Kristina Moore in a successful vote of no confidence, Deputy Binet revealed he has failed to secure the required minimum of six signatories.

Only his sister, Deputy Rose Binet, along with Deputies Mary Le Hegerat, Andy Howell and Barbara Ward and Constable Mike Jackson backed his nomination.

The Deputy previously said he intended to stand for the top job in Island politics if his no-confidence motion was successful.

He said: “I need to think about what I am going to do. I am very grateful to those who did back me.”
