NO ferries will head to St Malo from Jersey until next month, with Condor rerouting its crossings to Cherbourg.

The terminal in the Breton port will be closed starting this week until Monday 19 February for essential repairs.

A Condor spokesperson said: “We were notified by the St Malo authorities some time ago that essential repairs would be carried out to the roll-on/roll-off ramp in St Malo used by Condor and other commercial operators.

“All high-speed and conventional freight services from the islands therefore have been scheduled to Cherbourg in January and February and a similar frequency of sailings will be maintained over that period.”

Condor confirmed that its freight sailings to St Malo will continue, as they are able to use the commercial port during this period.

In addition to the repairs to its ramps, the St Malo terminal is due for a major 150-million euro upgrade, with a new terminal building to be created further inland – in an area that currently serves as a car park – as well as a redesign of the harbour surrounding it.

Construction is expected to start this year and last until 2026.
