THE Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club’s New Year’s Day swim has been cancelled.

The swim was due to take place this year at Bel Val following storm damage to the St Catherine’s slipway, where the event is usually held.

However, the club has announced that the swim has been cancelled owing to the poor weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the club, founded in 1974, has appointed long-time member Jenny Fitzgerald as its new president to take over from Dee Richards, who held the role for six years.

The JLDSC is an open-water swimming community which promotes safe sea swimming. It welcomes anyone, from children to adults, who have a desire to extend their swimming abilities beyond the confines of a swimming pool.
