AN 18-YEAR-OLD who carried a plank of wood embedded with nails towards a nightclub while being heard saying “I’m going to sort him out myself” has been fined and warned to behave.
Rhylin Robert Le Masurier was detained after walking towards Havana nightclub in Halkett Street with the weapon in the early hours of 28 October.
And when he was fined for the offence and several other crimes in the Magistrate’s Court this week, he shouted and swore at the judge and asked to be sent to La Moye instead.
In the first of his offences, the court heard that Le Masurier was guilty of riding an unroadworthy Yamaha motorbike on 23 May.
Advocate Katie Ridley, prosecuting, said the vehicle had a number of defects, including damaged bodywork, a missing rear reflector and an oil leak.
Between 15 and 23 June he stole a clutch handle and a mirror from another motorbike, and was identified as the thief by fingerprints.
And at 2.20am on 18 November he was seen by a police officer riding an unregistered and uninsured electric bike with a missing back light and faulty speedometer. He also rode the wrong way up a one-way street.
When police officers stopped and searched him they found he was carrying herbal cannabis, cannabis resin and diazepam.
Advocate Sarah Dale, defending, said Le Masurier “does take insurance seriously” but had not realised he needed separate insurance for his electric bike.
She added: “Mr Le Masurier is constantly either looking for work or in work. He is not spending lots of time out of work.”
Relief Magistrate Peter Harris imposed six-month binding over orders for possession of drugs, and refusing to obey a police officer during the Havana incident, and a total of £1,400 in fines for the other offences, allowing him to pay at the rate of £120 per month.
He told him: “We are all hopeful that you will get more settled and will lead a nicer life than getting arrested.”
When he was told he was not being offered the option of a custodial sentence, Le Masurier refused to leave the dock and shouted: “I’m not paying that. I want the custodial. Send me straight up to La Moye.”
He was escorted out by security guards.
