APPLICATIONS are now open for the Government of Jersey’s top job – the £250,000-a-year chief executive position described by the Chief Minister as “one of the most unique appointments in the British Isles”.
The successful applicant will replace interim chief executive Andrew McLaughlin, who was appointed in June and is set to leave his post in May 2024.
The role will be advertised both locally and internationally, but the successful candidate will be required to live in Jersey.
Recruitment company Odgers Berndtson has been appointed to lead the UK and international search.
In a video advertising the role, Deputy Kristina Moore calls for a permanent chief executive “who will provide inclusive and empowering leadership while ensuring accountability among senior public servants for their delivery, their spending and their vision for Island services”.
She added: “Naturally I really hope that we can encourage Jersey-based candidates to consider applying for the role, but this is, however, a competitive process and we’ll appoint the best person for the job.”
Candidates with the right skills and experience are encouraged to apply from both the public and private sectors.
The closing date for applications is 12 January 2024, with shortlisting and panel interviews taking place in February.
It is anticipated that candidates should be available to start in June.
Deputy Moore said: “It is a hugely rewarding role, seeing the difference public service makes every day, and giving back to our community.”
Dr McLaughlin, a NatWest chief executive, is working under a secondment and fixed-term agreement between the government and the firm. He was appointed following the resignation of Suzanne Wylie in March this year. She returned to Belfast to take on a chief executive role with the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce.
