FANS of Jersey’s Henry Cavill went wild this week when news spread that he was to star as the Terminator in a reboot of the 1980s sci-fi action movie.
A poster showing the Islander as the cyborg assassin, alongside Margot Robbie as Sarah Connor, was shared tens of thousands of times after appearing on Facebook.
The post accompanying the image read: “Get ready for this thrilling remake of THE TERMINATOR, hitting screens in 2025! Henry Cavill takes on the iconic role, bringing a fresh intensity to the relentless cyborg from a war torn future. With Margot Robbie as the formidable Sarah Connor, this remake promises a riveting start to a bold new chapter in the legendary franchise.”
But after word spread across the globe – and was seemingly warmly welcomed by fans who appeared excited by a remake of the classic film – industry experts were quick to point out that the news was fake and the image had been generated by AI.
The hysteria was caused by the Facebook page YODA BBY ABY, which has a reputation for sharing fake posters and press releases about movies that aren’t happening.
Following his international breakthrough as Superman in 2013, the former St Michael’s School pupil has starred in numerous films and TV shows including The Man from U.N.C.L.E. in 2015 and Mission: Impossible – Fallout three years later.
