PLANS have been lodged for a new restaurant and bar on the Havre des Pas promenade.
If permission is granted, the new venue will open on the site of the former Caribbean Bar – which has been boarded up for two decades – on the ground floor of the now closed Hotel de la Plage.
The scheme requires a planning application for a “change of use”, as the new business would operate independently, rather than within a hotel setting.
Any plans for future external alterations will be submitted in a separate planning application by the prospective occupier.
MS Planning Ltd, which has submitted the application on behalf of the applicant La Plage Hotel Ltd, say the restaurant and bar would bring “vibrancy and life to the Havre des Pas promenade”.
In 2005, planning permission was given to use the hotel as a lodging house. The permit was renewed in 2009 and again in 2014.
The former hotel is now known as Residence de la Plage, and contains 40 lodging units and one staff unit.
In 2017, planning permission was granted to convert part of the ground floor into seven apartments with basement stores. This was renewed in 2021.
The most recent planning application explains that the proposal for a new restaurant and bar “would complete the development of the ground floor”.
MS Planning described the plans as a “welcome investment in the evening economy sector” bringing “vibrancy” back to the Havre des Pas area.
